This trip will take you in the beautiful mountain lands of Western Balkan mountains. Take a walk among the majestic Belogradchik rocks (nominated for one of the new 7 wonders of the world), explore the alpine mountain trails to Kom peak, enjoy the wild landscapes of hidden mountain valleys, waterfalls, and forests, submerge in the local village life and culture.

Trip plan:
Day 1
Transfer to Belogradchik town (3h). Accommodation in family hotel. Short hike up to the main part of Belogradchik rocks phenomena and the medieval fortress Kaleto. Short transfer brings us at Magurata cave (one of the biggest in the country) famous for its big cave halls and prehistoric paintings. Transfer back to the hotel in Belograchik.

Day 2
We continue exploring the stunning Belogradchik rocks on foot. We do a loop hike among the interesting red sandstone formations. After lunch we head towards the remote Kopren area near the Serbian border. Hiking on the beautiful Kopren eco-trail with numerous waterfalls, water cascades and interesting rock formations. On the way we stop by the nearby Lopushanski monastery. Transfer to Berkovitsa town and accommodation in a family hotel.

Day 3
Today we will climb the 4th highest peak of Western Balkan mountains – Kom peak (2015m). Short transfer (25min) brings us to Kom hut (1505m). We make a loop hike among century old coniferous forests on dirt roads and forest trails up to the alpine meadows and Kom peak with stunning views to Balkan mountains range and Berkovitsa town. Free time for a walk in Berkovitsa. Transfer to Sofia via Petrohan pass.

Tour highlights:
Belogradchik rocks – natural sandstone phenomenon consisting of a group of many red rock figures up to 200 m high, resembling living creatures. Like in a fairy tale the medieval fortress Kaleto rises up at the top of the rocks.
Kopren – mountainous area near the Serbian border with beautiful fast rivers, numerous waterfalls and cascades, abundant flora and fauna, interesting rock formations and eco trails.
Magurata cave – one of the longest caves in Bulgaria (2500m) famous for its ancient rock drawings of people, animals and cult rituals.
Recommended travel period of the year: April - November
Nessesary equipment: hiking boots with adequate ankle support, waterproof and breathable clothes, daypack for personal items, water, energy bars, etc.
